Social Investment

In this section of the Social Observatory of the Pacific Alliance, official fiscal statistics data from the countries of the region are made available to users. The definition of investment or social spending used here refers to the amount of resources assigned to finance social policies, in accordance with the Classification of the functions of government (COFOG) contained in the The Government Finance Statistics Manual 2014 (GFSM 2014) of the International Monetary Fund. Six functions are included:

  • Social Protection
  • Education,
  • Health,
  • Housing and Community Amenities,
  • Recreation, Culture and Religion,
  • Environmental Protection.

The institutional coverage used to report the information of all the countries is that of the Central Government.

The information for this component is fed from the social investment portal of the Observatory for Social Development of Latin America and the Caribbean. The indicators and graphs presented here are generated from official data of fiscal statistics from the countries of the region compiled by the Economic Development Division and which are contained in CEPALSTAT.
